Baldwin Brass Hardware Depot - Baldwin Brass mortise body example

Baldwin Estate mortise body examples - This is an example of a typical Baldwin full mortise body. This type of body is used in all Baldwin Estate series full mortise locks. These bodies are 5.5" tall and either 3.5" or 4.0" deep depending on which backset is specified. This body has to be cut in, or "mortised" in the edge of the door. It contains all the mechanics of the lock, meaning the latch and the deadbolt. As you can see the deadbolt is a large and very secure bolt. It is essential that an experienced installer work with this type of hardware, it's not for an amateur to attempt to install. An improperly installed mortise lock will never work smoothly and be as secure as it should be.
